VVEC Ice Storm Repair Efforts

The recent ice storm destroyed almost 1,400 utility poles and caused outages to more than 12,000 members across our five-county service area.

We now have over 400 experienced workers, contractors and neighboring cooperative personnel working with our own crews to repair our system.

We are restoring electricity every hour. As of 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 electric service has been restored to 6,000 members who had lost power during the storm.

VVEC employees are manning phone lines that are overwhelmed wtih calls.

Although your board of trustees has approved a new emergency response system, that system cannot be implemented until AT&T upgrades telephone lines in the Collinsville area.

Our telephone system is adequate for our daily operations and any normal outage situations. However, in this situation we must make improvements which will allow us to more quickly respond to your outage calls.

A new Web site was scheduled to come online Jan. 1, and we are working to make it available to you before then.

This storm is being called the worst ice storm in Oklahoma’s history, and VVEC has sustained more damage than any other electric cooperative in the state. Although we cannot be responsible for the storm, we do apologize for the inconvenience and difficulty it has caused.
