Privileges of Ownership
You are not just a customer of Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative; you are an owner.
As a member-owner of VVEC, you have the right and privilege of choosing your representative on the co-op’s nine-member board of trustees, or of seeking election to the board yourself.
The cooperative’s five-county service area is divided into nine-districts, each of which is represented by one trustee. The trustee is a member of VVEC who resides in that district. In other words, your trustee is a member-owner of the cooperative just like you.
Member-owners also receive capital credits, which are similar to dividends paid to stockholders by for-profit businesses. Capital credits are usually paid annually based on the amount of electricity used by each individual member.
